When writing fiction, visualising characters is the most important part to me. Characters are almost always the basis of my stories. I got into a habit of trying to recreate their appearance with Cast Cards, used a lot on fanfiction forums.

This blog is simply a celebration of art in images and a way to mentally 'see' people and places featured in my stories. Massive Disclaimer: most (if not all) of the images do not belong to me (I found a lot of them on Google) and I have only used them to create a different artistic view, so all due respect is given to the creator or artist of the images when possible.

Welcome To The Archive

Those who know me know that I have a teeny tiny love for writing. It shrinks and grows, also it comes and goes with writer's block.

For me, looks are everything. The most difficult thing in writing is when I cannot 'see' the scene, the events, the characters and their possessions. I have improved greatly at creating an 'image' of my character from thought, but almost always characters were inspired by real people, and are the basis of my stories.

At work, I helped a teenage girl choose printer cartridges. She had ginger hair in a low ponytail and freckles, she wore a navy padded gilet and black tracksuit bottoms, she spoke in a quiet, soft but self-assured way, and she was perfect. The character of Holly from one of my supernatural stories had been created long ago, and she resembles my Yanamari from another one of my stories, Quest. But the moment I saw this girl, I knew she was Holly. So the character of 'Holly' had to change. Instead of being fierce  challenging and demanding, Holly became that softly-spoken but calmly self-assured voice personified.

In Detonator, Danica had always been a bubbly character but I could never decide how she looked. Was she black, or only half-black? Did I want her to have short hair or cropped hair? Danica's character was certain, and yet she was unfinished. It was when I reread my favourite manga Immortal Rain by Kaori Ozaki that I suddenly realised how much she resembled the beautiful Sharem. Or maybe I just wanted her to, because Sharem was the most painfully wonderful character and I wanted her to be mine, heh. When I saw her image in the manga, I suddenly knew how Danica looked. It was crazy. I never knew how I never realised it before.

The Point

So the point is, a lot of the pictures I am sharing with you are the pictures I was creating to help give a define picture for me and for my readers on thenewb5online.forumup.com of how my charcters looked, roughly, more or less. At first, it was a lot of celebrities, and then models I didn't know the name of.

Occasionally, I will also share with you pictures that I simply like. I will try to categorise them in the best way I can so that anyone who might chance to venture here can find aesthetic happiness with every click. (No porn. Shut up.)

The Images

I found most if not all of these images on google and edited them using Microsoft Word and Paint. Eventually, I found a free image editor program on Windows and used that too, but it confused me so I didn't use it much. I liked the challenge of trying to create a nice looking picture with the two most basic and popular programs on everybody's computer - Word and Paint.

As For My Work...

I am a temperamental writer, as no doubt most people know already. My other blog, meant for my writing, has become a sorry excuse for an online journal about depression. Don't read it. When I actually write something worth reading, you will know about it.

Peace and Love,

The Alter-Ego Writer xx
